Can an alternate refrigerant be used in my existing R-22 air-conditioning system?

The R-410A used in our newer systems cannot be substituted into existing systems designed for use with R-22 refrigerant. Many manufacturers offer "alternate" refrigerants like R-407C, R-438A and R-422, claiming they can be used in existing R-22 air-conditioning systems. Changing from R-22 to an alternate refrigerant can damage equipment and compromise overall system performance. Learn more.
